 Experience

In my 14+ years of marketing and communications experience, I have worked with brands from local non-profits and mom-and-pop shops to a fortune 100 corporation and the world’s largest defense contractor. In each one, I’ve worn many hats, developing annual marketing plans, working with budgets in the millions and executing multiplatform strategies to increase engagement and drive business initiatives.

The psychology of decision-making and how effective story telling can influence those choices were what initially got me interested in marketing, and they’re the reason I still love what I do all these years later.

Senior Marketing Manager, Advanced Energy 
TRC Companies, February 2020 - Present 

Following TRC Companies’ acquisition of Lockheed Martin’s Distributed Energy Services division, I have continued to direct the marketing activities for central region utility clients and have taken on additional responsibility consulting with client marketing teams across the nation. In order to reach customers in the COVID-19 environment, I have diversified traditional marketing approaches, placing increased emphasis on digital communications and advertising, and serve as an internal subject matter expert on digital marketing and web development.

 Marketing Manager 
Lockheed Martin, September 2016 - February 2020 
Serving both internal and external clients in the energy and electrification industries, I develop annual marketing strategies and direct a team of individuals in day-to-day execution. We use a proprietary CRM system to measure success and continuously improve initiatives across digital, content, print, social and direct mail marketing and communications campaigns. My team’s work recently led to a 127% achievement of program targets for energy savings and has won us an expanding portfolio of work across the central region.

Marketing Manager
Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard, January 2013 - August 2016 
As the single marketer serving more than 120 internal attorney clients, I created the first firm-wide marketing plan and aligned disparate practice area communications under a cohesive brand voice. In addition to designing the firm’s new website, digital and print advertisements and collateral materials, I managed content for eight blogs and regular columns in local media. My work helped grow the firm’s number of attorneys and annual revenues by more than 30% during my tenure.

Communications Manager 
Junior Chamber International, October 2009 - December 2012 
Leading the marketing for this membership-based non-profit organization, I overhauled the communications and social media strategy to deliver communication directly to members, growing the social following more than 330% in just three years. I also worked with a team to deliver international events attended by more than 10,000 delegates.

Assistant Account Executive 
Edelman Los Angeles, August 2008 - September 2009 
My work at Edelman involved coordinating public relations campaigns for large national and international clients. I drafted content including press releases, fact sheets and website copy, and coordinated earned media placements and sponsorships. My influencer outreach program earned my primary client a Popular Mechanics Reader’s Choice award. 

Media Analyst 
Edelman Intelligence, December 2007 - June 2008 
In a long internship, I tracked media mentions and developed reports analyzing content, tone and impressions for clients and their immediate competitors. These reports outlined not only areas for marketing campaign improvement but for product or service development to keep clients a step ahead of their competition.

About Me

Since you’ve scrolled this far, you must want to know more about me, huh? Well, I’m a lifelong petrolhead and actually run a website devoted to sharing stories about the joys of driving and all things automotive. I also wrote and recorded a weekly automotive news podcast for more than a year, but shelved the project so I could try out being a good dad to my newborn son. Maybe someday he’ll become my co-host.

My wife and I are avid travelers and take every opportunity to explore somewhere new in the world. Here we are on a recent trip to the Netherlands, where only one of us was involved in a low-speed canal boat shipwreck.

I’m also passionate about photography and videography - a hobby inherited from my broadcast journalist dad. I enjoy finding a way to tell a story visually, which I extend to branding, graphic design and creative writing in my full-time roles as well as through my brand consultancy, Flying Viking.

My colleagues would likely describe me as quiet, funny and collaborative, and I’ve been lucky to have managed and mentored many developing marketers throughout my career. For me, succeeding alone isn’t the goal; it’s in helping my team and those around me thrive that I find a real sense of accomplishment.
